I HEARD A FOREST PRAYING
(Peter DeRose - Sam M. Lewis)
« © '60 Edwin H Morris Co, ASCAP »
I heard a forest praying the trees were cold and bare
What was the forest saying let me repeat its prayer
Treet make a playground for children and trees shade a lover's lane
And they shelter the tired and the weary bidding them hope again
But men turned the fields and the forest into a battle fieled of grim
And men took a tree an innocent tree and made a cross for him
I heard a forest praying I heard the heavens weep
Just as the dawn was braying and night went on to sleep
(Men turned the fields and the forest into a battle fieled of grim
Men took a tree an innocent tree and made a cross for him)
I heard a forest praying I heard the heavens weep
Just as the dawn was braying and night went on to sleep

TWILIGHT ON THE TRAIL
(Sidney D. Mitchell - Louis Alter)
« © '56 Chappell & Co, ASCAP »
When it's twilight on the trail
And I jump along the world is like a dream
And the wripple of the stream is my song
When it's twilight on the trail
And I rest once more my ceiling is the sky
And the grass on which I lie is my floor
Never ever have a nickel in my jeans
Never ever have a debt to pay
Still I understand what real country man means
Guess I was born that way
When it's twilight on the trail
And my voice is still pleased let this heart of mine
Underneath the lonesome pine on the hill
When it's twilight on the trail

THAT SILVER HAIRED DADDY OF MINE
(Gene Autry - Jimmy Long)
« © '31 Western Music, ASCAP »
(It's that silver haired daddy of mine)
In a vine covered shack in the mountains bravely fighting the battle of time
Lives a dear one who's weathered life's sorrow it's that silver haired daddy of mine
If I could recall all the heartaches dear old daddy I've caused you to bear
If I could erase those lines from your face and bring back the gold to your hair
If God would but grant me the power just to turn back the pages of time
I'd give all I own if I could but atone to that silver haired daddy of mine
I know that it's too late for me to ever repay for the sorrows and for all the cares
And dear mother I know is waiting in heaven just to comfort and solace you there
If God would but grant me the power...
To that silver haired daddy of mine

SIOUX CITY SUE
(Ray Freedman - Dick Thomas)
« © '45 Edwin H. Morris & Co, ASCAP »
I drove a herd of cattle down from old Nebraska way
That's how I come to be in the state of Iowa
I met a girl in Iowa her eyes were big and blue
I asked her what her name was she said Sioux City Sue
Sioux City Sue Sioux City Sue
Your hair is red your eyes are blue
I'd swap my horse and dog for you
Sioux City Sue Sioux City Sue
There ain't no gal as true as my sweet Sioux City Sue
I asked her if she had a beau she said yes quite a few
But still I started courtin' my sweet Sioux City Sue
The first time that I stole a kiss I caught her stealing two
I asked her did she love me she said indeed I do
I'm admittin' Iowa I owe a lot to you
Cause I come from Nebraska to find Sioux City Sue
I'm gonna rope and tie her up I'll use my old lasso
I'm gonna put my brand on my sweet Sioux City Sue
Sioux City Sue Sioux City Sue...
Sioux City Sue Sioux City Sue...

WHEN IT'S PRAYER MEETING TIME IN THE HOLLOW
(Al Rice - Fleming Allen)
« © '33 Writer Share, BMI »
When it's prayer meeting time in the hollow
In that vine covered shrine neath the pines
Where the one that I love sends a prayer up above
Where we once pledged our love so divine
Till the day I go back to that hollow
I will follow that old golden rule
For it taught me to pray and to live for the day
Till we'll meet in that hollow back home
[ strings ]
Till the day I go back to that hollow...
Till we'll meet in that hollow back home

TALLER THAN TREES
(Lee Ferebee)
« © '55 Robbins Catalog, ASCAP »
(When my faith is gone to my knees I will go
Growing stronger and taller than trees)
One day O knelt by the old oak tree
I was weary and heartsick I was blue
I lifted my eyes and prayed to the skies
Let me grow like the mighty folks do
And this was the answer I felt
As under the oak tree I knelt
(On your knees you're taller than trees
You can look over heartaches and fears)
When my faith is low to my knees I will go
Growing stronger and taller than trees
On your knees you're taller than trees
You can look over heartaches and fears
When my faith is low to my knees I will go
Growing stronger and taller than trees

BIG ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN
(Dave Fisher)
« © '47 Unart Catalog, BMI »
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains there's a land that's fair and bright
Where the handouts grow on bushes and you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars are all empty and the sun shines every day
Oh the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
Lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In that Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains all the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth and the hens lay soft boiled eggs
The farmer's trees are full of fruit and the barns are full of hay
Oh I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow
Where they hung the clerk that invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
[ banjo ]
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains you never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol come a trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats and the railroad bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew and of whiskey too
You can paddle all around in a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
Oh the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
Lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In that Big Rock Candy Mountains
Oh the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees...

UNKNOWN SOLDIER
(Charles Grean - J. Schram)
« © '60 Unichappell Music, BMI »
I am the chill of a winter frost the night that surrounds the hill
I am the shadow the sunlight lost a voice that never be still
My greatest of promise you did not keep my legend is written by pain
And though I am dead I shall never sleep if I know I have died in fame
(I am the branch of a fallen tree the depth of a lonely star)
I am a hero without a name I died for my fellow men
Unknown I remain in God's hall of fame till there's peace in the world again
Till there's peace in the world again

CATTLE CALL
(Tex Owens)
« © '43 Forster Music, ASCAP »
Uh-huh-uh-huh...
The cattle are prowlin' the coyotes are howlin'
Way out through the doggies bawl
Where spurs are jinglin' a cowboy is singin'
His lonesome cattle call
Uh-huh-uh-huh
Singin' his lonesome cattle call
He rides in the sun till his day's work is done
As he rounds up the cattle each fall
Uh-huh-uh-huh singin' this cattle call
[ strings ]
He's brown as a berry from ridin' the prairie
As he rounds up the cattle each fall
Uh-huh-uh-huh singin' this cattle call
[ whistle ]
Uh-huh-uh-huh...

WHITE BUFFALO
(Alan Bergman)
« © '60 Frank Music, ASCAP »
I have heard a many many stories from an old Indian friend
And this is my favorite legend even though it has no end
There's an old Indian legend I was told long ago
It's about a special valley and a white buffalo
There are few who have seen him though they look high and low
For the trail is long and winding to the white buffalo
The legend says you'll find him if your heart is brave and true
And you treat all men as brothers no matter what they do
I have searched for that valley since I started to grow
I won't stop until I'll find it and the white buffalo
The legend says you'll find him...
And the white buffalo
